There are many ways at Dobwalls that children learn about the rights.  We have a pupil leadership team which has made posters around the school, led assemblies and promoted events like the UNICEF day for Change. 

We also: 

• Share the rights in Picture News assemblies each week
• We understand the rights linked to our behaviour choices – every child has the right to an education and disruption free learning 
• Pupil voice is important to us, e.g. every child is a leader at Dobwalls and we have 12 pupil leadership groups
• Every year, the children vote to choose a charity of the year which we raise money for
• We share our learning about rights with parents, carers and school Governors
• Events and themed weeks, like our annual Health and Wellbeing Week help us to learn about rights
• Staff have learnt about rights and continue to develop their knowledge to teach children rights throughout the curriculum

 

Dobwalls Rights

All rights are equally important but at Dobwalls we have been thinking about:-

Article 1 and 2: Everyone under the age of 18 has rights whatever their race, religion or abilities, whatever they think or say, whatever type of family they come from.

Article 12:  Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously.

Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health.

Article 28: Every child has the right to an education.  Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity.

Article 29: Education must develop every child's abilities to the full.  It must encourage respect for human rights and the environment.

Article 31: The right to rest, relax, play and engage in recreational activities.
