Thank you to everyone for coming along to support them all today and to our amazing band leader Callum.  There was a wider range of songs being played including modern pop songs and classics from the past!  Callum shared details of the techniques that children have been working in their lessons.

Well done to some of our Year 6 children who read brilliantly and to some of our younger children who acted excellently!  The face of shock was fantastic!

Thank you Reverend Mark - a great start to Monday morning!

Our day started with a visit from Ed from Liskeard Library.  Thank you to Ed who came into an assembly who reminded us all how important reading is - the more you read, the more you learn.  He also read a short story to us. 

This year, our book day had a Disney theme!  Each class took a different Disney story and their learning centred around a love of reading as well as developing their vocabulary.  Everyone looked brilliant in such an array of costumes - thank you to everyone!

During the day, there has been such a range of learning taking place with everyone reading and learning new vocabulary! Our SECRET skills of 'getting involved' and 'trying something new' have been important to us today. A delightful day!

Thank you Morrisons - we are very grateful for your donations of books for us at Dobwalls on World Book Day! 

What a 'splann' and 'bryntin' afternoon we had with the Millpool Chorale entertaining us as part of our St Piran's afternoon celebrations. Their singing was beautiful and we are very grateful for them giving up their time to come and sing to us. All our children were an excellent audience with lots of clapping, smiles and singing throughout. Thank you to around 50 parents/carers who came to join us for the Trelawney Shout at 3pm! Our singing certainly raised the roof and sounded stunning altogether.

During the afternoon, everyone spent time in their classes learning some new Cornish words and made themselves a new Cornish badge which they proudly wore!

Today we have raised a further £70!

Children's Mental Health Week including Safer Internet Day.

On Monday, Miss Jameson and the wellbeing leaders were in action leading an assembly thinking about our mental health and how we can help ourselves and others.  Mr Spencer led an assembly sharing the national theme of 'this is my place' and everyone learnt a new song. 

For safer internet day, the national theme this year was "smart tech, safe choices - exploring the safe and responsible use of AI."  The children spent time learning and reflecting upon AI e.g. what is safe to talk with, what is not and why focussing on voice assistance and chat bots.  We thought about how we use AI e.g. asking the weather, road conditions, games, search engines, smart tv's and more!  AI is really helpful to help us find information, make our devices more secure and also used in hospitals. AI is brilliant BUT!  It still needs humans and we all have to make sure we use it safely.  We must not share our personal information and we must not believe everything we read as it can be fake - we must check with a trusted adult.  Also, Miss Gaskin and the digital leaders led a very informative assembly with the digital leaders leading a super quiz!  

As well as the bake sale, we were delighted to welcome Gary and Barney from The Screech Owl Sanctuary into an assembly.  They brought with them an owl called Trelawney and a polecat called Steve.  They told us how our fundraising will help and support them in their conservation projects and the Cornwall Stork Project.  Did you know that owls grow to their full size by four months old?!  We learnt lots of new and interesting facts.  Amazing projects in action.

The total from the bake sale was nearly £200.  The overall total for the year currently stands at £330!  We will keep fundraising this year.  

Tom led a workshop with all children in Year 3 and Year 4 focussed on healthy eating and the impact this has upon our bodies. The children were able to taste a range of health foods. It was brilliant to see them tasting new foods - some they liked and others not so! Beetroot and kiwi were indeed a couple of the divisive ones!

Mr Frame spent time modelling and teaching how we teach the four operations of adding, subtraction, multiplication and division.  They also played a maths game.  There was a lot of thinking and head scratching in the hall!!  Our Y6's proudly demonstrated their amazing maths skills!

They made Roman soldier dolls, mosaics and Roman purses. The children also took part in Roman bread tasting with olive oil and honey and even made Roman roads using biscuits and custard!

This morning, we have visited Dobwalls United Church for a super ending to our term. Big thank you to Reverend Mark, Nicki and the the volunteers at the Church for making us feel so welcome. We had a wonderful time together reflecting nad learning about the Christian meaning of Christmas the Christmas story.

PTFA Bake Off

Wow Dobwalls - we absolutely have the next Bake Off Winner here at Dobwalls! So many amazing cakes came in today - THANKYOU! The School Council had the hard role of choosing the winners. They put them into two categories - large cakes and small cakes. See our winners and a range of entries below. Cody, Emilie, Florence, Beau and Ruby - congratulations!

The class organised an art gallery presenting to parents, carers and the rest of the school. Each piece reflected their curiosity, confidence, and perspectives, displaying their SECRET skills of plan-do-review, share their learning and get involved.

Wednesday 17th December 

All our rock stars performed brilliantly showing their SECRET skills in action once again.  There were several brave children taking to the stage for the first time as well as many who have been developing their skills over the past few months and even years!  

Thank you to everyone who came along to support one and all. As Band Leader Tom said, "the power of music!" 

Thursday 11th December

What a fantastic festive evening! Our Juniors performed excellently with beautiful singing full of enthusiasm and joy! Thank you so much to everyone for coming along to support us to make the evening so special. Thank you to all our amazing staff at Dobwalls and to Steve and Laura-Beth from Liskeard Town Band who led our Brass Band.

Cargnlaze is a magical place to perform with beautiful acoustics and their Christmas lights were magical.  We are so fortunate to have this venue just down the road from our school. 

We are a Rights Respecting School.

Thank you so much for your support. There was great excitement as the children laid all of the coins. The trail went 3/4 of the way around the daily mile track! The money was counted and there was a stall at the Christmas Fair to guess our total! The total raised was £126.78!  Well done everyone!

A huge well done to all of our amazing children in Reception, Year One and Year Two who this week performed their brilliant nativity. Their singing was absolutely beautiful and filled the hall! Thank you so much to everyone for coming along to support them.

Ava said, "It was great to see them join in with us and happy as I felt sad for them being in hospital".

Thank you to everyone who listened to us singing around the village and to Dobwalls United Church for the refreshments at the end! A lovely festive singing evening!

Thank you so much to the PTFA for organising and everyone for coming along.

Thank you to all our fantastic children and parents who came along to represent Dobwalls in Liskeard Lights Up! The lanterns looked brilliant and the rain pretty much held off!  We all joined in with a countdown in Cornish to switch the Christmas lights on and enjoyed the fireworks together!

Thank you also to everyone waving at us from the pavements - so lovely to be part of the atmosphere altogether.

Thank you everyone for your support for Toasty Tuesday. The smell of delicious toast filled the school once again!

What a brilliant start to a Monday morning! Thank you Reverend Mark!

Children in Need – thank you to everyone for joining in! We had a great selection of spots in school!  This year's theme was 'Challenge Yourself' and mini-challenges were organised by our Events Team and Mr Ryan.  There was great excitement as children tried to complete the challenges and spot all the Pudseys around school! The weather was a shame.

Thank you for the support, we have raised just over £100!

They were interested and listened brilliantly during the day representing our school brilliantly. A great day out Fowey!

Huge thank you to Steve and Laura-Beth from Liskeard Town Band.  We are so proud of everyone for taking part.

On Tuesday, we marked Remembrance Day at 11am with Steve from Liskeard Town Band playing The Last Post and two minutes silence. A big thank you to Steve for playing, wearing his uniform from his time in the military and sharing some memories of his time playing the military band. We watched a short online clip to reflect and together sang a song from the British Legion titled, I'll Remember Them. 

Together, the whole school sang, remembered and reflected. 

We held a competition for children to make posters to be displayed during the week to share the message of anti-bullying.  We've had lots of superb posters made by children which were all different ways of sharing the same message.
