Welcome to Year 2!

In Year 2, we like to have lots of fun and be creative. We are looking forward to starting the new school year with our exciting topic 'Going on Safari' where we will learn about different animals, sketch and draw and read lots of exciting themed stories. We love reading in class 2 and have lots of opportunities to do this during the school day. We also enjoy using a variety of resources to help us with our learning, especially in maths and will be utilising these during the school year.

We have lots of exciting topics planned for the year including: Castles, Knights and PrincessesThe Great Fire of London and In the Deep Dark Woods.

Please find further details about the learning for the half term and
suggested homework activities below:
Knowledge Organisers
These provide the key knowledge we will be learning in our foundation topics this half term.  It would be useful to look at these with you child and talk about them.  You could have mini quizzes to see what they can remember, draw parts of them or they can create their own version.  This will help the children to ensure they remember the knowledge fully.
Year Two Overview of Planning
A Day in the Life of a Victorian School Child

As part of their half termly topic called Age of Engineering, Year 2 were immersed for the day into Victorian school life on Friday 23rd April.  The children and staff were invited to school wearing Victorian costumes and the children spent their day in their very own Victorian classroom. There was no interactive whiteboard, no computers and no books to write in. Instead, the children learned to cross stitch, practised their skipping skills, learned the national anthem and practised their handwriting using chalk and chalkboards. The children had a fabulous day although most agreed that they preferred our school and lessons as they are today.   Shay in year Two said, "I had a great day but I much prefer Dobwalls School as it is now!"  Oliver said, "I really liked it because it was different to our normal day".
